Linda's Thoughts - Rumors, A Great Idea and A Not So Great Interview Posted by Linda Robin
on 07/25/04 at 8:23 PM This is my little of this and a little of that column. First, I would be a fool not to talk about a major rumor that is all over the net. And as big as that one is the next rumor is just as good. Is it possible that a playa is going to be the next Smackdown GM? A friend of mine has an idea how to improve house show attendance. And finally a former WWE superstar did an interview on a radio show, and not only came off looking like crap but she brought a few people down with her. Even I can’t wait to read this column!
Let’s go backwards and start with the radio show, with the former WWE female star that still has a chip on her shoulder. I’m talking about Joanie Laurer formally known as Chyna. Joanie showed up this past Thursday on the Howard Stern radio show. She was their to plug her new CD, but from all accounts that I have read she was also there to continue to bash Triple H her former boyfriend, and Sean Waltman her current boyfriend who is now her former boyfriend, oh I’ll explain that in a minute. Okay now I didn’t hear the show because frankly I wouldn’t waste my time but a friend of mine heard it and as I said I’ve read a few transcripts on the net and this woman not only came off as extremely bitter but she also sounded very out of it. At times when she talked she was totally incoherent. Let me start off with Joanie breaking up with Sean Waltman. According to Joanie Sean he is returning to the WWE. She also called him a druggie, which of course is something that’s not really a surprise to many fans. However her attitude about Sean offended him so much that he put out a response oh his site talking about how she hurt him. But what I found fascinating was that Vince and Triple H were paying out of their own pockets for Sean to attend rehab, and that’s without knowing if he will return to wrestling.
Now you would think Joanie would be thrilled that Triple H would help a friend like that. But instead she referred to Hunter as Triple Ass. She also said that she was so nice to him when he came for Sean but he just shrugged when he saw her. Gee I wonder why? Maybe because since they broke up she has done nothing but bad mouth him and try to come off as the victim.
While I know Hunter wasn’t totally innocent Joanie seemed to forget to mention that there were problems in their relationship like him wanting kids, she didn’t. Or Hunter was devoted to wrestling and Joanie was looking to make it big in movies. No Hunter didn’t handle things right but either did Joanie. And sure it had to be horrible to be working in the same company with your ex- boyfriend and his new girlfriend. Of course I’m talking about Stephanie. But Joanie continues to play the victim. I found Joanie getting to me the day she returned from her plastic surgery. Joanie went from ugly ducking to a very attractive looking woman, and you could see her whole being start to change. Then Playboy hired her and that was it at least for me, I saw one big ego during Raw shows, and watching Joanie started to become a very unpleasant thing for me. I enjoyed her as Chyna the bodyguard to Hunter Hearst Helmsley and then as one of the original members of DX. She was a novelty, kind of freaky looking but her gimmick was fun. But now she bounces from one thing to another. She’s a singer, no a drummer, no an actress, oh wait it’s back to wrestling. I think she is a very difficult person to deal with. And one more thing, if Sean needs rehab, which he does, then Joanie should find a room as well. This is one sick woman and it would be nice to see her get her life straightened out. But I have a feeling Joanie likes the role she’s playing now. It’s too bad she doesn’t see how ridiculous, she is coming off.
Okay now to more pleasant things. My friend James emailed me last week and said that he knew a great way to pick up attendance at house shows. Combine the rosters. This way the fans get to see superstars from both shows. I loved this immediately. It’s no secret that house show attendance is going down week after week. In fact Friday night’s Raw show was cancelled. Many believe it was due to poor sales. So why not combine these shows, and let the fans see the Raw and Smackdown wresters take on each other. As long as the split is going to continue, I say do all that can be done to get the fans in love with both products and having crossover shows for the weekend is a great way to go.
Is it true? Theodore Long will be Smackdown’s new General Manager. I’m not sure if this can work or not, but I say it’s definitely worth a try. Long is super on the mic, and he comes up with some great catch phrases, and I know I’ve missed him since he and Mark Jindrak parted ways. I did expect Stephanie to take that job back but I would like to see Long get a chance. Hopefully we will find out next week if Long is the man.
This is the big one, I heard it on a hotline report on Friday, and now it’s all over the sites. At Summerslam it will be Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton for the World Title. And if this isn’t a surprise maybe telling you that Randy will win the title is? That’s right the hotline report says that Randy is going over with the title, WWE wants the young talent to start getting a big push. And what happens with Hunter? Well according to this report, Hunter will face Eugene. Okay let’s say this rumor turns out to be true. First, it tells me that I am right. Tomorrow night during the Iron Man Match Eugene is going to go after Hunter and Hunter loses. That would set up their match for the up coming pay per view. I am sure this match up with Randy and Benoit is going to be a very popular one in the coming weeks. Some of you have already sent me your feelings on it and so far I would say that it’s evenly split. Many feel Orton winning would be a fresh idea and he can handle it. Others feel he’s too green for such a major title. Here’s my take, Randy has definitely stepped up his game. He’s come a long way in a year and has shown that he can work great matches and talk with the best of them. Chris has been an outstanding champion, and WWE has shown that they have believed in him, they’ve built him up week after week. Hunter, doesn’t need the belt and with a Randy win he doesn’t get it for a while. See this could work. But now that this news has become a major headline on the sites, if WWE did plan on all of this, will they still continue to go with the plan, or will they feel that they now have to mix things up? Anyway,
I think Randy could handle that belt beautifully. It could make him cockier OR he could turn face and become more down to earth and totally cherish the win. We have three weeks until the show; let’s face it a lot of things could change. But I have to admit an Orton title reign works for me.
Okay get ready tomorrow Raw kicks off with the Iron Man Match. I hope the ratings soar for this segment because Benoit and Triple H are going to give their all. I am thrilled that Raw will be showcasing this match, and as I said Benoit and Triple H will make that first hour of Raw GOLD, you know they aim to please.
