Before a somewhat smaller than usual crowd of between 400 and 500 owing to the Halloween weekend, Jersey All Pro Wrestling returned to the Rahway Recreation Center for "Halloween Hell".

There were some excellent matches, but there were also some rather odd moments during the evening, as two of the matches seemed unusually overbooked for a JAPW show, which typically features solid and logical booking. There were also some odd moments during the Halloween costume contest, but we'll save that for later.

Dark Matches

  • Corvis Fear over Arcadia (with Joe Rules)

  • EC Negro of Dirty Rotten Scoundels (with KC Blade) beat Monsta Mack

    Halloween Hell results

  • "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews (with Alicia) over Rush Margera

  • In great match number one of the night, IWS came down from Montreal for the 4 way in which El Generico defeated Excess 69, Beef Wellington and Sexxxy Eddy, with El Generico pinned Sexxxy Eddy.

It was interesting to watch the half of the crowd, many of whom know the workers from CZW shows...and the half of the crowd who'd never seen them before. The second half were won over fairly quickly as the IWA crew pulled out all their trademark spots, with El Generico getting gasps and a major pop with his brainbuster on the turnbuckle.

  • In curious moment one of the night, Azrael (with Rick Silver) defeated beat Justice Pain with Johnny D by DQ after a reverse decision using "instant replay" with a ringside cameraman. The finish was one thing, but moving Azrael down this far in the card after he'd worked the main event ladder match with Jay Lethal only last month.

However, when several finishes later in the evening have heels "cheating", and no "instant replay" is used...it makes things look just a bit strange.

  • The Solution (Papadon and Havok, with Johnny D) retained the the JAPW tag titles over The H Effect (Dixie and Deranged) . The crowd was decidedly unimpressed with The Solution. In the eyes of the crowd, The Solution seem to have the physical look, but not much else.

  • In excellent match two, "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen retained his IWS Heavyweight Title over Roderick Strong with his package piledriver

  • Low Ki beat CM Punk. At least Punk got offense in this month, unlike last month's match where B-Boy never seemed to be allowed to get any in at all.

  • Jay Lethal retained the JAPW Light Heavyweight Title over Sonjay Dutt by pinfall. This was a very good match, but it was hard, nigh onto impossible, to compare with last month's ladder match with Azrael.

Post-match, Rick Silver came out and challenged Lethal to another match on behalf of Azrael, claiming Lethal only won last month "because his daddy helped him" (during an in-stand brawl, which got a great camera shot on the commercial tape, the father of Jay Lethal punched Azrael [which looked like a cannon shot from the camera angle], with Azrael then taking a Eddie Gilbert rolling bump down the bleachers). They set up a match with Lethal's title against Azrael's career, which Azrael wasn't too happy with.

  • Samoa Joe beat Super Dragon by pinfall in a stiff-fest.

Then, we had the costume contest.

It seemed to be the night for cute little kids in Halloween costumes, with one kid in a HILARIOUS and dead-on Shark Boy costume and another as a football player (guess which two people won). However, there was also a guy dressed up in a nun outfit (actually well done).

Then.... there was the well-known "Green Lantern Fan" carrying a green lantern, wearing a Green Lantern mask...but in drag, complete with affected lisping accent. I may need therapy after he came over to me and attempted to strike up a conversation.

    Back to wrestling.

  • Dan Maff retained the JAPW Heavyweight title over Trent Acid in 2 out of 3 falls match.

Here's where the over-booking seemed to rear its ugly head. Acid took the first fall by pinfall after the referee clearly blew the fall, where he was supposed to count the fall. Maff didn't kick out, but Hanson called it a 2 count. Acid then simply covered him again without any other offense for the originally designed pinfall.

The second fall had Acid pin Maff with Maff's foot on the rope...and announced as winning the JAPW belt...until, in a Dusty finish... another referee comes out and pointes out that Maff's foot was on the ropes. After the blown finish in fall one, the crowd was NOT happy with the Dusty finish, even though they wanted to see Maff go over in the match.

The match was then restarted. Samoa Joe THEN came to ringside, and inadvertantly causes Maff to take a chairshot from the referee. This got LOUD groans from the crowd. After all of this, Maff takes two straight falls to win the match and retain his title.

Post-match, Maff calls out Samoa Joe...who never came out again. Maff made reference to challenging "the competition's champion". Oh goody. Who wants to take bets that their match at the December show (see below) doesn't have a clean finish after ROH hears about this?

  • In the main event, and a good match, Teddy Hart and Jack Evans defeated Homicide and B-Boy after Hart Teddy hit a corkscrew 450 on B-Boy. As ever, throughout the match, it seemed like Jack Evans took most of the bumps and Hart got in most of the spectacular spots. I won't even mention the occasions where Teddy Hart jumped up and conveniently forget to sell his "injured knee" when it came time for one of his spots.

The lights went out, and when they came back up, The Carnage Crew (HC Loc and Tony Devito) were in the ring. They looked to be coming in to make the save for Homicide and B-Boy until Homicide put Teddy in the sharpshooter and then they attacked Homicide.

Here's another inexplicable moment. Anyone remember a certain evening in Elizabeth, NJ where Teddy Hart pissed off Carnage Crew and most of the Ring of Honor locker room? I know promotions can't always follow along with the storylines (let alone real life happenings) of other major independents, but this seems a bit disconcerting. I give lots of credit to Carnage Crew if they can work with Hart after all the past heat.
