Jersey All Pro Wrestling 1/28 Rahway, NJ results Posted by Bob Magee (Courtesy: PWBTS.com....NOW WITH NO POPUPS)
Jersey All Pro Wrestling returned to Rahway, NJ last night for "Wild Card".
Despite two major names not appearing; one due to injury, one due to travel problems with the ice storms in the Atlanta aea preventing him from being able to get to the show...the show drew well, and was another example of the balanced lineup JAPW features; with one helluva Heavyweight Title match and heel turn.
Roderick Strong was stuck trying to come up through Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which had only one of the four runways open for most of the day, with the airport closed for the rest, due to the ice storms that affected the South...ice storm that still have 300,000 homes in Georgia. Austin Aries missed the show with what was cited as a knee injury. Prior to the show's beginning, Frank Iaedevia came to the ring, and announced these problem and offered refunds.
Dark match
Arcadia and Ashe Samuels over Cloudy and Cheech after a cross armed face first piledriver by Arcadia on Cloudy.
"Wild Card"
The Strong Style Thugs (B-Boy and Homicide, with Low Ki) beat the Christopher St. Connection (Buff E and Mace Mendoza) to win the JAPW Tag Team Titles after a B-Boy shining wizard in what seemed like a really odd squash, after all the build-up with the Christopher Street Connection program against The Solution over the last few months.
Dixie beat Neeno Capone and EC Negro in a 3 way dance via a school boy with a heel "foot on the ropes" pin. Post-match, Lacey, Alicia and Arele came out and left with Dixie, which alludes to the "Female Effect" discussed in the shills for the show.
Deranged defeated IWS's Dan Paisan via a springboard elbow drop
Carnage Crew (HC Loc and Tont Devito) beat H2O (Corvis Fear and Rush Margera) via the top rope spiked piledriver
Dan Maff did a babyface promo thanking the fans for their support over the past year (NOTE: Angle Alert for later)
Azriel retained the JAPW Light Heavyweight title over Beef Wellington after an electric chair driver
Frankie the Mobster successfully defended his IWS Heavyweight title over Excess via a top rope chokeslam
In one of those...OK, where's the real challenger...matches, Dan Maff defeated Pinky Sanchez to retain the JAPW Title. I still l don't understand why this was done prior to the REAL Heavyweight Title match. I hope it was at least Sanchez's birthday to justify this strange match.
Then, what was the REAL main event of the evening... Jay Lethal challenging Dan Maff. These two gelled beautifully and had an incredible match with good solad wrestling early, and near-fall after near-fall toward the end that had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands.
In a Dusty Finish, Jay Lethal pinned Maff to "win the JAPW title" after a flying DDT, counted by referee Paul Turner, after Sean Hanson took a ref bump. They built this up with bringing out Lethal's well-known mother and father to celebrate...only to have Hansen come to at the appropriate moment and DQ Lethal. Dan Maff "wouldn't accept the win", tried to give the belt back to Lethal, until Lethal turned his back to Maff and Maff went back heel after crowning Lethal with the Heavyweight belt. Hanson took off his ref shirt to have a Dan Maff shirt, also turning heel.
The Strong Style Thugs (B-Boy, Homicide, and Low Ki) beat Teddy Hart, El Generico, and "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen after Low Ki hit the top rope double stomp on Steen.
In what seems like one more example of getting paid a lot for a doing a little, Hart came out taped up with a "shoulder injury" and disappeared for most of the match after being "hurt" oly to return for the end. Really nice for those people who paid money and came out on a cold night to see Hart, and instead got his usual antics. Low Ki stole El Generico's mask near the end of the match and Generico hid under the ring for the rest of the match. The finish saw Hart went on the top rope, with Steen tagging himself in. Steen got pushed into Hart who bumped to the floor, with Steen taking the pinfall.
This match seemed somewhat diasppointing given those in it. Hart's usual antics didn't help the flow of the match at all.
JAPW debuts the tapings for its online JAPW Internet Weekly show on February 12 in Lake Hiawatha, NJ.
JAPW returns to the ECW Arena on March 26th. Announced thus far are Jack Evans/Teddy Hart vs. B-Boy/Homicide in a steel cage for the tag titles and a re-match of Jay Lethal vs. Dan Maff. Click
