ECWA returned to the Newark, DE Boys and Girls Club last night for the ninth annual Super Eight Tournament before a crowd of 400.

ECWA Super Eight first round

  • Puma defeated Eric Matlock

A video presentation followed, showing footage of the previous Super Eight tournaments from 1997 to 2004

  • JJ Perez beat Tyson Dux

  • Alex Shelley beat Andrew Ryker in what was undoubetedly the match of Ryker's life. Ryker's experience has been limited largely to ECWA , the former Maryland-based Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation, and smaller independents such as KYDA Pro Wrestling, 5 Star Wrestling, and Classic Championship Wrestling.

But Ryker kept up with Shelley to work a helluva match, and produce what may well have been the second best match of the night, behind the Shelley-Williams classic later in the evening.

  • Petey Williams defeated Rory Fox

A ECWA Hall of Fame induction, with emcee Cheetah Master and special guest Gary Michael Capetta followed, with longtime ring announcer Chuck Ristano, who literally grew up as ring announcer inducted into ECWA's Hall of Fame. Ristano will be leaving as ring announcer following his May graduation from the Univeristy of Delaware.

    ECWA Super Eight Semifinals

  • Puma beat JJ Perez

  • In what was far and away the best match of the night (and what was inexplicably not booked as the final) Petey Williams beat Alex Shelley

  • . ECWA Tag Team "Summit" (tag team Royal Rumble style, when one member is eliminated, the team is eliminated) with the winners getting a tag title match, immediately after the Summit).

The Logan Brothers won via elimination over Scotty Charisma and Chase Del Monte, Prince Nana and Arch Kincaid, The O.C. Boyz, Mr. Ooh La La and a HUGE. Kodiak Bear (who looked like he'd gained 100 pounds since his ECW days), The Canadian Superstars, Japanese Pool Boy and Mega, Mike Kruel and Xavier, Johnny Maxx and Mike Fury, Tommy Penmanship and Craig Stratton, Striker and Fred Sampson, and The Chick Magnets

  • In the ECWA Tag Team Title match, The Valedictorians (Billy Bax and Rob Eckos) successfully retained the belts over the Logan Brothers

ECWA Ninth Annual Super 8 Finals

Petey Williams defeated Puma to become the eighth ECWA Super Eight Champion (Christopher Daniels has won the tournament twice)
