The first part of the Free for All was a music video tribute to the World Title scene in the federation.
In the pre-show countdown to the PPV, they recapped Undertaker’s heel turn from Raw. They showed him make Jim Ross kiss Vince’s ass in front of the world and then his attack on Rob Van Dam from Smackdown! Taker’s match with Bradshaw was shown and RVD got revenge on him with a huge chair shot to the head.
Coachman talked about the Jeff/Matt Hardy match and announced that Lita was scheduled to be the special guest referee. Clips of past interviews of the Hardyz were shown, followed by the recent events that have torn the brothers apart. Fights between the brothers were shown and Matt asking for Lita to be the special referee was shown as well.
The Hardyz/Tajiri & Spike Dudley tag match was played from Raw. Jeff made a blind tag and was able to hit the Swanton and get the victory for the team. Matt got upset about how the match ended despite the win.
A music video tribute was played for Steve Austin. They then recapped the Smackdown tag match between the four men surrounding the World Title scene. Rock won the match with the Sharpshooter thanks to Austin holding Angle back from entering the ring to stop the hold.
Vince McMahon came down to the ring to kick of Vengeance. Vince said there is nobody big enough or bad enough to make him kiss anyone’s ass. Vince then said that Rock pushed his face into Rikishi’s ass. He said it was the most humiliating thing he has ever been through. He then yelled at the people or laughing at him. He told the people to never laugh at the misfortune of billionaires. Flair’s music then came on and he came to the ring.
Ric Flair then came down and said the show was about to start RIGHT NOW! Scotty 2 Hotty’s music then hit and him and Albert came down to the ring. Vince then left the ring and stood on near the ringside area.
Match #1: Bonus Match
Scotty 2 Hotty & Albert vs. Test & Christian
The two teams got into it in the aisle way. Scotty and Christian kicked off the match and Scotty got the quick advantage and made Christian tag out to Test. Albert was then tagged in and he came right in and crushed Test and went for the pin.
Scotty got the tag and went up top on Test and then got clotheslined down. Christian was tagged back in and he scoop slammed Scotty and then pummeled him on the mat. Test and Christian then got the double-team in the corner on Scotty 2 Hotty.
Test slammed Scotty and only got 2 on the pin attempt. Scotty was slammed into the turnbuckle by Test and then whipped into the opposite side. He slipped under Test and hit a sidekick and both men went down. Albert was tagged in and he sandwiched Christian in the corner.
Scotty was looking to hit the worm, but Christian DDTed him and mocked his moves. Albert was thrown into Test’s big boot and then Scotty went for the worm of his own. Albert came in and hit the Baldo Bomb on Christian and got the 3-count to end this boring first match.
Winner: Scotty 2 Hotty & Albert
Jonathan Coachman interviewed William Regal. He ripped on the USA and said that he was going to take the IC title from Edge tonight to prove his point to everyone.
Match #2: Intercontinental Title Match
Edge vs. William Regal
Edge came down to the ring first, followed by the challenger. The referee checked Regal and then the bell sounded to kick off the match. They tied up in the middle of the ring and Edge backed Regal up into the corner. Regal took a cheap shot to the eyes of Edge. Edge then got on the middle rope and nailed a drop kick on Regal to send him out of the ring. They then fought on the outside and Regal slammed him into the guardrail and then they got back into the ring.
Regal had the upperhand in the match and went for several pin attempts. Regal picked up Edge by the hair and then pummeled him in the head and he fell to the mat. Regal picked him up and Edge went for desperation kicks to the gut to gain the advantage.
They fought to the outside and Edge got up on the ring apron. He went for the spear off the edge and nailed the steel ring steps. Regal then reached under the ring and got brass knuckles. The referee was attending to Edge and then Regal rolled Edge back in the ring and went for the pin.
Regal picked him up and nailed him with a power bomb and went for another pinfall, but Edge was able to kick out. Regal nailed Edge with the brass knucks and then picked him up for another power bomb into a pin combination, but Edge kicked out.
Edge finally got up and hit a desperation spear on Regal and rolled him up for the 3-count.
Winner: Edge
Kurt Angle was in the backstage are trying to convince Ric Flair that he would become the Undisputed World Champion. He kept telling them what he was going to do and Flair just agreed with everything and told him it would be good if he could get the job done.
Matt Hardy was apologizing to Lita for everything that has happened. He told her it was his chance to prove he is a smarter and better wrestler. She told him that she had to call the match right down the middle and be fair. Matt said they would go out after his win and forget about it all.
Match #3: Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy w/ Special Guest Referee Lita
The brothers tied up to start the match, they seemed to be taking it easy in the opening moments of the battle. Matt had Jeff in an armbar and then he dropped the elbows on him on the mat.
Matt backed Jeff into the corner and nailed him repeatedly with knife-edge chops. Jeff finally got him back and then Jeff was picked up by Matt and dropped down across the ropes. Matt then got Jeff in a sleeper hold. Jeff turned the hold around and then Matt missed a legdrop attempt from the middle rope.
Jeff connected with a legdrop and Matt kicked out of the pin that followed. Matt then got Jeff in the tree of loath and stomped away at him in the gut. Matt pulled him away and rolled him up for the pin.
Matt then tossed Jeff over the ropes and he held onto the ropes and stayed on the ring apron. Jeff nailed Matt when he turned around and then they got back in the ring and Jeff was down, favoring his knee.
Matt saw that Jeff was in pain and worked on the injured knee of his brother. He dropped down on the knee several times and then got him in a leg wrench. Matt went for a figure four and Jeff kicked him right out of the ring.
Matt was on the outside and Jeff was going to attempt a big move over the top rope, but his leg gave out and he fell to the mat. Jeff finally came back and dropped Matt to the mat and then went up top for a high-risk move. Jeff took too much time and Matt made him fall.
Matt went for the Twist of Fate and then went for a cover on Jeff by using the ropes and Lita was fair and stopped the count. Matt got in Lita’s face and Jeff rolled him up and nearly got a 3. Matt kicked Jeff out of the ring. Jeff then got up top and nailed Matt with the Swanton and got the win over his brother.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Trish Stratus went into Rock’s dressing room and wished him luck and then kissed him on the cheek. Rock told her that he was focusing on nothing but becoming the Undisputed World Champion. He told her she would Smell what the Rock is cookin’.
Match #4: Tag Team Title Match
The Dudley Boyz vs. Kane & Big Show
D-Von and Kane started off the match. Kane slammed D-Von and then Buh Buh tried to run in and Kane back dropped him. Show got the tag from Kane and he worked over Buh Buh. Buh Buh got a cheap shot to the eyes of Show and then tagged in D-Von. D-Von tried to run-in and he got tossed out of the ring. Show slammed Buh Buh into D-Von in the corner. Buh Buh was then tossed out of the ring and Kane went up top and leaped to the outside and hit both Dudleyz.
Big Show then grabbed Stacy, who was in the ring, and pulled her pants down. He then spanked her over his knee in the middle of the ring. Kane got back into the ring and got the Whassup Flying Headbutt from the Dudleyz.
Kane was then double-teamed again with a FlapJack from the Dudleyz. As Kane got up, D-Von was setting up for the 3D, but Kane nailed him with the big boot to the face. Show then got back in and clotheslined both of the Dudleyz repeatedly. He grabbed D-Von for the chokeslam, but got attacked from behind by Buh Buh.
Show then went for a high-risk move off the top and nailed his partner. Show and Kane then got face-to-face and were mad over what happened. Show then went off the ropes and missed Buh Buh and nailed Kane off the ring apron. The Dudleyz then 3Ded Show into the top turnbuckle and pinned him for the victory.
Winner(s): The Dudley Boyz
Lita was trying to get Matt to talk to her in the backstage area. He was getting his bags and leaving and he just walked right past her.
They showed a recap of Undertaker’s past and then showed his heel turn once again on Raw. They showed him make JR kiss Vince’s ass yet again.
Match #5: WWF Hardcore Title Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Undertaker
Taker and RVD locked up and Taker pushed Van Dam to the ground. Van Dam got Taker in the corner and Taker muscled out and slammed RVD to the mat. He went for an early pin and RVD kicked out. RVD then nailed Taker with a spinning heel kick and pinned him for a near fall.
RVD got a huge boot from Taker to send him to the outside. RVD and Taker then fought into the crowd and Taker nailed him with another boot on the defensive. Taker then slammed RVD a guardrail, grabbed a Mexican flag from a person in the crowd and choked Van Dam with it.
Taker then grabbed a huge barrier object and slammed it on the face of RVD. He picked him up and then nailed him with shots to the kidneys. Van Dam grabbed a fire extinguisher on Taker. RVD grabbed a trashcan and smashed it over the head of Taker. He then went up into an upper layer of the arena and crashed down on Taker with a cross body block splash.
Van Dam then fought Taker further into the backstage area. They fought up to the top of the stage area and Van Dam nailed Taker with a spinning legdrop. Taker got right up and nailed RVD in the face. He picked him up off the steel, put him up on his shoulder and rammed his head into the stage.
Taker then set up and went for the Last Ride. He grabbed onto the stage and climbed up and kicked at Taker to get away. Taker then came at him with a chair and RVD nailed him with a spinning heel kick. RVD then hit the Rolling Thunder and got a 2-count on the pin.
Taker was sitting backed up against the stage and RVD dropkicked a chair in Taker’s face. RVD then got chokeslammed off the stage through a bunch of tables and equipment and pinned Van Dam to capture the Hardcore Title.
Winner: The Undertaker
They showed a music video tribute to Triple H with a song by U2. They showed clips of him injuring his knee, going through surgery, rehabilitation and get back in shape for wrestling.
Match #6: WWF Women’s Championship Match
Trish Stratus vs. Jacqueline
Jacqueline started off the match by getting the upperhand on Trish. Jackie slammed Trish to the mat and worked her over and finally the champ made a comeback. Jackie smacked her in the face and took her to the mat and began to stomp away at her.
Trish pulled up and clothelined Jackie and went for the pin. Jackie came back with a huge takedown and then whipped Trish into the corner, but missed the follow up and nearly got pinned. Jackie whipped Trish into the ropes and back dropped her. Jackie then nailed her with a standing elbow and then slammed her down to the mat again, and followed with a drop kick to the back of the head.
Both women got up and Trish got Jackie locked in a backslide and pinned her with a 3-count and retained her Women’s Title.
Winner: Trish Stratus
Clips from Smackdown were shown of Rock trying to make Vince kiss his ass. He then said Vince was not good enough to kiss his ass and brought out Jim Ross instead. He changed his mind and then brought out Trish for him to her ass instead. Rock changed his mind and made Trish take a seat at ringside area. He said he picked a special ass for him to kiss and Rikishi came out and Rock gave Vince the Rock Bottom and then made him kiss the big man’s huge ass.
They then interviewed Rikishi from WWF New York and JR thanked him for teaching Vince a lesson. He said he thought they were going to have to remove Vince’s head from his ass surgically.
Match #7: WWF Championship Match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle
Austin and Angle locked right up and battled into the corner. The referee broke them up and they tied up again and got into the corner. An “Angle Sucks” chant broke out and then Austin finally got Angle down and stomped the hell out of him.
Austin then whipped Angle off the ropes and kicked him until he fell out of the ring. Angle got back in and stomped the hell out of Austin and he ran out of the ring to regroup as well. Austin got back in and gave Angle the two-finger salute.
Austin then got the upperhand again and he worked over Angle. Austin then draped Angle over the ropes and choked him out. Austin then got Angle in the corner and wrenched his arm over the ropes.
Angle then broke free and pounded away at Austin and then Austin fought back and Angle got out of the ring. The match continued on the outside and Austin kept the upperhand. Austin then got Angle in the corner again and then knife-edged him repeatedly.
Angle then snapped and broke free and got Austin in the ankle lock. Austin nearly tapped, but finally reached out to the bottom rope to break the hold. Another “Angle Sucks” chant erupted from the crowd and Austin then back dropped Angle over the ropes to the outside.
Austin ran outside and hit more knife-edge chops on Angle against the table. Angle then broke out and got Austin around the ringpost and snapped his leg around it. Angle then got Austin in the sharpshooter around the ringpost, much like Bret Hart used to do. Angle then broke the hold and they got back in the ring and Angle locked in the Ankle Lock again.
Austin hit a desperation knife-edge chop and then Angle backed Austin into the corner and stomped away at his chest area. Angle pummeled Austin in the corner and then he turned it around, but Angle grabbed him and hit a waistlock German suplex and followed up with 2 more and a near fall.
Angle stomped at Austin and then went upstairs for the Moonsault. He missed after Austin rolled away and both men were down on the mat. Austin hit the Lou Thesz press and pummeled Angle and then went for a pin, but Angle kicked out.
Angle got up and punched Austin in the head and then went for a headlock, but Austin hit him with a series of German suplexes. After 5 suplexes, he went for the pinfall. Angle got up and hit another suplex and went for a pin, but Austin kicked out. Austin threw Angle off the ropes and hit the Stunner and pinned Angle to retain the WWF Title and advance to the Main Event for the Undisputed World Title.
Winner: Stone Cold Steve Austin
Test came into Trish Stratus’ dressing room while she was in just a towel and said he would give her a congratulations kiss for her win. He said it was her chance to put her hands on a real man. He said once she has Test, she can forget about the rest. She kicked him out of her locker room and was pissed.
Match #8: World Championship Title Match
The Rock vs. Chris Jericho
Rock and Jericho stood face-to-face in the ring and then circled eachother before they locked up. Rock got Jericho in the side headlock and the Jericho pushed him off the ropes. Rock nailed a hiptoss and then got Jericho in an armbar.
Rock dropped the elbow on his arm and they got up and fought it out. Jericho nailed Rock with a spinning heel kick and he rolled out of the ring. Jericho then hit Rock with a dropkick that slammed him into the announce table.
Jericho got outside and slammed Rock into the table. Rock fought back and punched Jericho, but he grabbed him and slammed Rock into the steel steps. Jericho and Rock got back into the ring and Jericho went for the pin, and then slammed Rock in the face.
Jericho flexed to the crowd and then stomped away at Rock and then choked him across the ropes. He whipped Rock and he ducked a clothesline and then hit Jericho with a flying clothesline of his own. Jericho then got right up and suplexed Rock and went for the pin.
Jericho waited for Rock to get up and nailed him with a clothesline. He got Rock in the corner and stomped away at him and then slapped him in the head. Jericho then went for a clothesline and got belly-to-belly suplexed and then Rock hit a Samoan Drop.
Jericho got up and got Rock in a Sleeper Hold from behind. He got Rock down to one knee and then down completely on the mat. Rock broke free and with a shot to the gut and Jericho got him back down and hit the Lionsault.
Jericho hit a suplex on Rock and then went up top for a high-risk move. Rock stopped him and nailed him with knife-edge chops. Rock went up and went for a superplex, but Jericho pushed him off the ropes and then nailed him with a crossbody. Rock rolled with it and nearly pinned Jericho.
Rock then tossed Jericho over the top rope and he hit the ringpost and fell to the outside. Jericho catapulted the Rock into the guard barrier. Jericho then grabbed a TV monitor and then pulled out the rest from the table. Jericho rolled into stop the count and then went back to work on the Rock.
Jericho got Rock up on the top rope and set up for a Rock Bottom. Rock countered and hit the DDT on Jericho through the table and it all came crashing down.
Rock pulled Jericho out of the rubble and slammed him into the side of the ring. He punched in the face and then rolled him back into the ring. Rock got back in and crouched down and set up for the Rock Bottom. Jericho took him down with a facebuster and both men were down.
Jericho ran at the fallen Rock and he shot up and got Jericho in the Sharpshooter. Rock didn’t quite get the hold in and Jericho turned it over and got Rock in the sharpshooter in the middle of the ring. Rock was down and out and looked to be giving up, but he finally got to the ropes.
Rock got up and rolled up Jericho and did not get the pin and they got up and Rock hit the Rock Bottom. They were both down and Rock did not follow-up quickly enough. Vince then ran down and distracted the referee while Rock made the pin. Rock then got up and nailed Vince with a right and knocked him off the ring apron.
Jericho got a spinebuster from Rock and then he pulled Vince into the ring and pummeled the hell out of him. Jericho hit a low blow on Rock and then Rock bottomed him and made the cover to win the World Title.
Winner: Chris Jericho
Match #9: Undisputed World Championship Title Match
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho
Austin came down and went after the tired Jericho. Angel ran in and nailed Austin with a steel chair and Rock then chased Angle out of the arena and the bell sounded to kick off the match.
Austin broke out of the corner and spear down Jericho and then slammed his head into the corner repeatedly. Jericho got knocked to the ring apron and Austin crashed him off the side into the announcer’s table. Austin then nailed Jericho into the barrier and they then fought into the crowd.
Austin got him back to the ringside area and slammed him into the ringpost. Austin then pulled up the pad to expose the concrete floor and then grabbed Jericho and picked him up. Austin got slammed down into the concrete floor and Jericho then placed Austin on the table and tried to get him in the Walls of Jericho on the table.
Austin got free and suplexed Jericho on the concrete. He got him up and tossed him back into the ring. Austin got his shoulder driven into the ringpost by Jericho and then Jericho wrenched his arm into the ropes and then hit knife-edge chops repeatedly in the corner.
Austin then got free and catapulted Jericho into the turnbuckle. Jericho got Austin to the mat in an armbar and then wrenched the arm with leverage from the bottom rope. Hebner finally saw Jericho cheating and made him stop. Jericho went upstairs and missed a high-risk move and then Austin got him in the corner and pummeled him.
Austin went for a move and Jericho countered it and got him in the Walls of Jericho in the middle of the ring. Austin made his way to the ropes to break the hold. Jericho whipped Austin off the ropes and they took out the ref and he fell to the outside.
Austin went to pick up Jericho and he hit him with a low blow and both men were then down after a Stunner on Austin from Jericho. Vince then ran down with Nick Patrick to officiate the match, and then Flair came down and pulled the ref out and slammed him into the barrier.
Vince then beat the hell out of Flair on the outside and on the inside, Austin and Jericho kept going at it. Austin hit the Lou Thesz press on Jericho and then picked him up and slammed him into the corner. Jericho then got up top and went for a drop kick from the top rope. Austin got Jericho in the Walls of Jericho and he tapped, but there was no referee to make the call.
Booker T. ran in and slammed Austin in the back with the WWF Title and Vince then rolled Earl Hebner back in the ring to call the match. Jericho reached over and pinned Austin to win the Undisputed World Championship with a huge upset. Jericho got up and took both titles and walked out as Vince laughed at the top of the stage area.
