CZW 2/7 ECW Arena Fifth Anniversary Show results

Despite a well-publicized departure of a major tag team.....an injury to one of the promotion's top babyfaces while weightlifting earlier in the week (bad enough that he wore a TEMS unit when walking out to ringside)...a training injury during taining that resulted in a broken collarbone for a wrestler in one of the most pushed matches, the absence of the promotion's lead heel due to a particularly tragic death in his family only 48 hours before...and one of the wrestlers in the main event not arriving until after intermission due to a missed flight...despite all that...CZW celebrated its fifth anniversary last night before a crowd of about 650 in a show that didn't end until nearly 1:00 am.

The show started late, due to the WORLD-1 show that preceded it (a extended break between which may have been a blessing to allow fans to get dinner inbetween shows...but resulted in the show running late)

Dark match

  • Scotty Matthews defeated Dee Jay Hyde, Bounty Hunter and Jon Dahmer in a 4-way elimination match. Hyde eliminated Dahmer, Bounty Hunter eliminated Hyde, Scotty pinned Bounty Hunter.

  • John Zandig announced the CZW 2003 Fan Award winners: Best Heel/Messiah, Best Move/Joker Driver (aka Slim J's Anger Management), Tag Team/Backseat Boyz, Feud/Zandig vs. Hi-Five, Best Wrestler/Messiah, Best Newcomer/Jimmy Rave, Best Manager/Dewey, Best Bump - Zandig/Mondo Tournament of Death 2, Best Match/Cage of Death 5

    Zandig invited the locker room to come out, then announced Lobo as the first inductee to the CZW Hall of Fame. Lobo gave a heartfelt speech about dedication

    Zandig than gave the choice to the remaining H-IV members to join Zandig's side or be f***ed in his words. Christisan and B-Boy joined while Flash and Dewey didn't.

    Fifth Anniversary show results

  • Dirty Rotten Scoundrels defeated CKNY (with Jude) and All Money Is Legal in an elimination match (All Money Is Legal eliminated CKNY, followed by Dirty Rotten Scoundrels won by eliminating All Money Is Legal).

  • Mercedes Martinez defeated Sumie Sakai

  • Rebel's Army (Greg Matthews, Rockin' Rebel and Derek Frazier) lost by DQ to Z-Barr and Nick Berk when Rebel nailed Hartog with a chairshow. Danny Rose had been jumped mid-match by Adam Flash with another chairshot to the head. Post-match, Hartog actually challenged Rebel to a match in March.

  • Jimmy Rave defeated Jimmy Jacobs (with Becky Bayless) and the debuting Joey Ryan in a 15 minute iron man match, winning two falls to one each for Jimmy Jacobs and Joey Ryan. Alex Shelley, who broke his collarbone training this past week, came out before the match and stated that his first match back would be the one didn't get to have with Jimmy Jacobs. The debuting Ryan was over with a large segment of the crowd with "Jo...joey-e-o-e-o" chants.

  • Sonjay Dutt retained his CZW Junior Heavyweight Title by defeating Grim Reefer. Sonjay Dutt's belt was "stolen" during the beginning of the match when they were brawling in the aisle way (more on that later).

  • After intermission, John Zandig came out and told everyone he "forgot" to announce one award for Bump of the Year. It went to him and Mondo. Suddenly Papa Roach's "The Last Resort" music hit and Sick Nick Mondo came out to the loudest pop of the night. He did a speech with the whole locker room again coming to ringside. A special tribute video to John Zandig then aired (apparently a genuine surprise fort Zandig) This was followed up by Mondo beinbg out in the CZW Hall of Fame.

  • Joker and Chris Cash lost to Ruckus and Sabian. Afterwards, Joker turned on Cash and left him laying until Sonjay Dutt and Jimmy Jacobs ran out to make the save. Sonjay said he wanted his belt back and he'd do anything to get it, setting up a 6-man was made for next month with Joker, Ruckus, and Sabian against Chris Cash, Sonjay Dutt and Jimmy Jacobs.

  • B-Boy defeated Excalibur in the CZW Xtreme Strong Style Tournament when B-Boy hit Excalibur with a shining wizard (into a a chair into Excalibur's face) for the pinfall.

  • The H8 Club defeated Homicide and Dan Maff using the Steamboat/Flair "both mens shoulders down" finish. Homicide hit Nick Gage up with a side suplex that had Gage and Homicide's shoulders down. Brian Logan counted and Nick Gage got his shoulder up in time for The H8 Club to get the victory. The four were shaking hands when Homicide slapped Gage, followed by Homicide and Maff taking off, and the H8 Club fuming in the ring. It appears that this is being set up for a rematch next month

  • John Zandig came out and said since his opponent missed his flight (well, he had...sort of) he was getting the night off.

    So Zandig told the crowd that he had decided to bring back two old time CZW favorites for the main event of the 5th year anniversary show.

    First, out came Necro Butcher...then out came Madman Pondo with Dewey Donovan. Thus begins the senseless violence portion of the program...

    The match was the sort of over-the-top train wreck that you'd expect from these two...with bumps such as, as CZWs Derek Sabato put it "in one of the sickest bumps ever, Pondo tossed Butcher off the top turnbuckle to the floor...directly to the floor."

    Various weapons were used including Pondo nailing Necrobutcher with two sickening shots with his trademark stop sign, and later in the face with a room fan shattering it.

    Then "Natural Born Killaz" went off and New Jack stormed the ring (New Jack had missed his first flight...Pondo and Necrobutcher were to work the match...then New Jack caught a late flight and got to the building sometime after intermission. Keep in mind that intermission was somewhere after 11:00 pm).

    The match somehow turned into an impromptu elimination match, as Pondo ended up getting DDTed onto a bunch of forks by Necro and pinned. They ended up double teaming Necro when New Jack went on top of the stage and dove off of the ECW Arena onto Necro through a table for the victory.

    Post-match, Pondo ended up back in the ring with his new manager Dewey Donovan and preceded to attack him with his own crutch and than cut off Donovan's trademark ponytail.

    Notes:

    Messiah was not present for the show due to the particularly tragic death of his sister only 48 hours before...adding to his recent real-life sadness as his brother died only two months earlier, and lost his parents within the last year to cancer.

    Wifebeater injured his back while weightlifting earlier in the week (in enough pain that that he wore a TEMS unit when walking out to ringside). Given Wifebeater's well-known, bordering on insane pain tolerance...he had to REALLY be hurting for this and was noticably having difficulty moving his upper body while walking.

    Alex Shelley broke his collarbone while training last week, taking him out of the heavily pushed Jacobs-Shelley match.

    The Backseat Boyz, who left/were fired/one fired and one quit (pick any of the 8 or 9 versions of the story that you like, none of which make particular sense, given the facts of the situation) in a shock to many, were booed when their portion of the fifth anniversary video aired and when mentioned indirectly by Zandig. Many in the company and many fans thought there would be problems when their names came up. What occurred was quite the contrary.

    CZW returns on Friday night, March 5 in Allentown, PA and on March 6 at the ECW Arena.
