CZW 3/6 ECW Arena results Posted by Bob Magee Combat Zone Wrestling returned last night to the ECW Arena in front of a crowd of over 500 with "Extreme Overdrive"... or what could better have been termed the "Teddy Hart Show". In a contrast to last week's near-lynch mob atmosphere at the Jersey All Pro Wrestling show in Rahway, NJ...Teddy Hart was over as a babyface much of the night despite his best efforts and that of CZW.
DJ Hyde, Merc, and Gutter wrestled to very basic no contest.
After about five minutes, the Teddy Hart show began. Teddy Hart walked into the building through the front door and motioned for DJ Hyde, Merc, and Gutter to leave the ring. The CZW crowd was going wild for Hart, a contrast to last week's crowd. He did moonsaults for the crowd, then called out Zandig...a followup to last night's angle in Allentown that was reported to have been of the wilder, over-the-top angles the company's ever done...where Hart was "thrown out" of the locker room ala the RPH November Elizabeth show.
Zandig came out, reaming out Hart. Hart responded by saying that he'll work for free after last night and how much he loves the fans. Zandig (and Hart) tried as hard as they could to get over Hart as a arrogant heel, but the Arena crowd wasn't having one bit of it Zandig finally gave up trying to heel Hart for the time being, and made a 3-way Aerial Assault Match with Hart vs. Jack Evans and. Petey Williams later on that night.
In a contrast to what he's done in other promotions. Hart was reported to have actually apologized to Zandig backstage because of the way the angle went and was told that it wasn't his fault...and they'd get him over as a heel later in the show.
Jon Dahmer beat GQ and Jude in a unadvertised Ladder Match. Dahmer suplexed GQ and Jude out of their socks repeatedly. Four ladders were used for various sick purposes, with Dahmer winningn with a powerbomb off the top of a ladder.
The next segment saw referee Rob Hartog come to the ring and call out Rebel's Army out of an angle from last month's show. A set up took place for an arm wrestling match. (Can readers guess where this is going?) After some back and forth insults that included Hartog taking off his shirt and exposing his huge gut (coming under the category of entirely TOO much information) they finally set down for the usual stock wrestling-style arm wrestling match with the babyface (Hartog) getting the advantage, with the remainder of Rebel's Army jumping Hartog until All Money Is Legal, Nick Berk and Z-Barr, and CKNY made the save.
All this led to an #1 Contenders Match for the Tag Team Titles with the winner facing Rebel's Army later in the show.
All Money Is Legal beat CKNY and Berk and Barr. Part way into the match, Rebel's Army came back out and dragged Z-Barr to the back. Nick Berk ran after them and that was the end of Berk and Z-Barr for the evening. AMIL eventually went over...then Rebel's Army (Greg Matthews and Derek Frazier) ran out to begin the Tag Title match.
Rebel's Army beat All Money Is Legal in a CZW Tag Team Titles Match
A match of CHIKARA Pro wrestlers (Allentown, PA) took place as The Wildcards and Hallowwicked beat Mike Quackenbush, Icarus and Gran Akuma in a Chikara 6-Man Tag Match. Decent match, but one these six have undoubtedly worked 100 times in CHIKARA.
Ruckus, Joker, and Sabian (with Robby Mireno) defeated Sonjay Dutt, Chris Cash and Jimmy Jacobs (with Becky Bayless) in an Elimination Tables Match.
Robby Mireno, now doing a sort of "wigger" character after a hilarious set of skits on CZW's Fake You TV worth checking out via Smart Mark Video tape did a ton of work on the mike to get the match started, including suggestions that "they" (use your imagination) "love the white booty" and they were going to get Becky's "booty" that evening.
This match was full of insane spots designed to shorten a career. Into the match, As the other five were flying around, Becky Bayless wound up in the ring being forced to kiss Sabian. After 2 more sick spots, Sabian was back in the ring with Bayless for some more, but got hit with a low blow and powerbomb by Bayless which surprised the hell out of the crowd.
Eliminations:
The tables finally came into play, with Chris Cash hitting a top rope Cash Flow on Sabian into a table on the floor which didn't break, making for a sickening looking spot. Sabian was put back on the table and Sonjay Dutt quickly splashed him, eliminating Sabian.
Jacobs was eliminated Robby Mireno "kidnapped" Bayless, and Ruckus drove Jacobs through a table.
A table was set up below the Arena entrance with Joker went up to above the entrance. Ruckus placed both Cash and Sonjay on the table (on the floor directly in front of the entrance). Joker climbed onto to the top of a desk that usually is used for play-by-play of shows, and jumped off with a foot stomp, eliminating both Chris Cash and Dutt tyo win the match..
After intermission, Eric Gargiulo did a TV open with an Alex Shelley interview. The angle they were working on seemed to be Gargiulo suggesting that Alex Shelley wasn't really hurt (he legitimately had a broken collarbone) but was avoiding Jimmy Jacobs. Shelley called out Jacobs who came out looking sad after the Ruckus/Joker/Sabian group had grabbed Becky Bayless. Shelley kept going, made a comment about Bayless and Jacobs went after Shelley. The bell rang but Shelley played chciken heel and said he'd be ready for the match at the CZW May show.
Nick Gage beat Roderick Strong in the show's Xtreme Strong Style Tournament Match. This was a very good match...the third good match that Strong has had in his first long-time go-round in the Northeast. Both worked very stiff as hell. At one point, Nick Gage piled up chairs on the outside of the ring, but Strong instead sent Gage into the pile.
At the finish, Strong kept kicking out of several of Gage's trademark spots before finally being pinned. Many in the crowd didn't seem happy with Strong not going over with chants letting their feelings be known, and gave Strong a standing ovation post-match.
In the most spectacular match of the night, Jack Evans and Petey Williams beat Teddy Hart in an Aerial Assault Match.
It seemed that no matter what he did, Teddy was over as a babyface through most of this match..even though he was trying like hell to play an arrogant heel. He started with ordering Jack Evans and Petey Williams to wrestle, then stood in the corner making faces. he'd then hit a specatacular spot, then go back to the corner and told them to wrestling each other some more.
This spot fest continued before Jack Evans hit what I can only describe as a breathtaking 630 degree kneedrop and a 630 dive off the ECW Arena stage going to the outside where Jack Evans did two beautiful dives. They eventually got back to the ring with Hart starting to beating on both Evans and WiIlliams Hart had them both ready for a pinfall, then in his last possible effort to get over as a heel, picked up their shoulders at the two count, got on the microphone and said he wasn't going to give Zandig the finish...didn't want to wrestle these guys anymore and called out Zandig again. Zandig came out, and after a verbal shootfest, laid out Teddy Hart, then put Evans and Williams on top of the prone Hart for the duel pinfall.
Adam Flash defeated B-Boy in a match that the crowd didn't get into primarily because it followed the last match with Hart. At the finish, The Messiah interfered helping Flash get the win. Wifebeater ran out and brawled around ringside with The Messiah until Zandig ran out to begin the main event.
The Messiah defeated Zandig to win the CZW World Heavyweight Title in a Taipei, Boards with Nails Death Match. Things started with an all-Arena brawl. Zandig was already a mess by the time they got back to the ring. Ugly shots with the boards of nails, followed with Messiah's head and arms cut open. Teddy Hart came back again through the front door, hit Zandig with a moonsault on and put Messiah on top for the pinfal;, costing Zandig his title.
This led to an interview segment with Teddy and Zandig where a large portion of the crowd got behind Hart, and seemed to turn on Zandig. They brawled some more and Zandig gave Hart a Mother F'N Bomb onto the board of nails which busted open Hart like a pig from the back of his head. Things concluded with a suggested future Zandig vs. Hart match...ending the show with a great angle...at a reasonable hour... as the show ended at about 11:35 pm.
