Ring of Honor 3/13 Elizabeth, NJ results

In what had to be the single most unbelivable atmosphere ever to hold a wrestling show that this writer has ever seen...despite disbelief, pressure, and outright attempts at sabotage from wrestling sites, many of which had only weeks before had treated the promotion as the second coming of wrestling...Ring of Honor held its March 13th pre-Wrestlemania shows at the Rex Plex in Elizabeth, NJ.

In the afternoon show, before a crowd of between 500-600, the following matches were held for the afternoon "Do or Die II" show:

  • NWA-Wildside's Sal Rinauro defeated NWA Florida's Jerelle Clark after Clark hit his trademark 630 splash

  • The Solution defeated NWA-Wildside's Todd Sexton and PCW/Dallas's Jared Steele with the Problem Solver

  • NWA-Wildside's Caprice Coleman defeated Rainman. Post-match, Julius Smokes came out and got the two to team in the Scarmble match later in the afternoon show.

  • IWA Mid-South Wrestling's Danny Daniels defeated NWA Midwest X Division Champion Austin Aries by submission via a Rings Of Saturn in what may have been the best wrestling match on this card

  • In another of an excellent series of Roderick Strong matches in the Northeast, Hydro of Special K (aka Jay Lethal) defeated Roderick Strong in what was decidedly not a popular result

  • In a match of IWA Mid-South Wrestlers...Jimmy Jacobs defeated Brad Bradley with the Contra Code

  • Allison Danger defeated April Hunter

  • Super Dragon defeated Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Excalibur with the Psycho driver

  • In a Scramble Match, Fast Eddie and Don Juan defeated the teams of Dunn and Marcos, The Outcast Killaz, and Rainman and Caprice Coleman

    In the evening's show before what the promotion stated as a record crowd estimated at 1800 by some and higher by some others (either set of estimates surpassing the crowd drawn for the All Japan/ROH Final Battle 2003 show in Philadelphia) with standing room only....Ring of Honor held its evening show.

    The obvious issue of the former public face of the company, Rob Feinstein, was dealt with only twice...in a very low key manner by in-ring talent Samoa Joe, as well as Dusty Rhodes in a pre-show angle. The crowd seemed to want badly to simply mark out and not deal with the issues of the past 10 days...and simply come to a excellent wrestling show.

  • The opener, surprisingly was the Six Man Mayhem Match. The match was an unbelivable spotfest, as the returning Amazing Red defeated Teddy Hart, Jack Evans, Mark Briscoe, Jimmy Rave and Sonjay Dutt

  • Xavier defeated Slyk Wagner Brown by submission

  • Jerry Lynn defeated Nigel McGuiness by pinfall after a cradle piledriver

  • #1 Contender's Trophy
    Matt Stryker defeated John Walters with the Striker Lock submission

  • #1 Contendership for ROH Tag Team Titles
    Second City Saints (Colt Cabana and Ace Steel) and The Prophecy (Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer) went to a double DQ...which the crowd did NOT like

  • Pure Wrestling Title Match
    AJ Styles successfully defended his Pure Wrestling Title against CM Punk (with special guest referee, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat).

    Post-match, CM Punk and Ricky Steamboat had a confrontation, with Punk complaining that during the match, that Styles had submitted and Steamboat supposedly didn't call it, and now Punk had been "robbed", twice for the Pure Wrestling Title. Punk demanded an apology. Steamboat came back at Punk verbally, Punk jumped Steamboat in the ring, with Steamboat nailing Punk with all his own trademark spots, which the crowd went berzerk for. Steamboat got what may well have been the pop of the night both before and after the match.

  • In the first of the a steel cage matches, Samoa Joe successfully defended his ROH World Title against Jay Briscoe (with Mark Briscoe) after an incredible Muscle Buster off the top rope. This match was far better than many thought it would be. Some of the promotion's fans haven't been fond of the matches with the Briscoes, not out of dislike of the team...but more because Samoa Joe has been made to look like an invincable monster.

    Briscoe bled on a almost horrifying Bill Alfonso level with ROH booker Gabe Sapolsky coming out a least 4 times to check. Post-match Briscoe's bleeding had amazingly stopped. Even with the tricks to help foster bleeding that many of us know about, this was truly scary looking even from the bleachers.

  • In Scramble Cage II, the Carnage Crew (Justin Credible, Loc, Devito and Masada...and Dusty Rhodes) defeated Special K (including Dixie, Izzy, Slim J, Abyss, Hydro, Angel Dust...and occasional participation by too many to count) with the finish was Loc and Devito doing a spike piledriver on Angel Dust through 2 stacked tables.
