3PW 5/15 ECW Arena results Posted by Bob Magee 3PW returned to the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA last night in the continually rehabbed ECW Arena (referred to by boxing promoters as the New Alhambra Hall). The venue has been redone considerably, with "premium seating" (insert your own comments there) being constructed in the traditional stage/camera location used by the ECW Arena for 11 years. The new camera area (professionally done) is above the "Eagles Nest" side of the building. The air conditioning, however, has not yet been fixed, making things unpleasant for the early part of the show.
Due to the reconstruction (involving partial removal of the wall near the former stage location), the Ted Petty Memorial banner had been taken down. After considerable prodding by fans, the new building operators replaced it near the concession stand area. There was some mention that the banner may eventually be hung from the ceiling of the ECW Arena.
The show featured a excellent match with Joey Matthews-Jerry Lynn (not counting the finish) and a blow-away AJ Styles-Christopher
On to the matches...
Rob Eckos defeated Amazing N8 Mattson.
Ruckus defeated Mike Kruel and Damian Adams in a three way match. Ruckus looked good in this match.
Tod Gordon's "Sugar Shack" interview segment furthered the heel turn of Roadkill, with Gordon telling him that "he had lost the hunger he had in ECW" and had Jasmin St. Claire slap Roadkill. Gordon then "gave Roadkill Jasmin's managerial guidance" for his match with the Blue Meanie.
In a largely comedy match, Jack Victory and Rockin' Rebel defeated Ron Zombie and oldtime ECW wrestler Don E. Allen.
CJ O'Doyle defeated Pitbull Gary Wolfe by pinfall. Post-match, Wolfe destroyed O'Doyle, putting him through two tables and
leaving him laying on the arena floor.
Roadkill (with Jasmin St. Claire) defeated The Blue Meanie in a quick squash, again...to get him over as a serious heel, and away from his longtime comedy character.
Jerry Lynn defeated 3PW Heavyweight Champion Joey Matthews by countout when Matthews walked out of the building with the belt in a results that did NOT get over with fans (the non-finish was foreshadowed earlier in a Matthews promo with him saying he'll do "anything" to keep the belt).
Lynn got on the house mike afterwards and demanded a No DQ, No Countout, Falls Count Anywhere match with Matthews for the June 19th show.
Slyk Wagner Brown and April Hunter (with Tod Gordon) defeated "Macho Man" Matt Striker (with Miss Talia) when April Hunter pinned Striker after a spinebuster following a Brown superkick.
Post-match, Talia turned on Striker, saying she would "rather be a slave to a real man, then hang around a boy like him". Talia then voluntarily put on her old "sex slave" (I don't make this stuff up, folks) leash, and left with Tod Gordon who she'd been with previously prior to this face turn. Striker threw a post-match tantrum, and former partner Rob Eckos came to the ring to try to get Striker to abandon the "silly gimmicks" and rejoin him.
In an incredible match that will blow away anything seen tonight on PPV from Los Angeles, Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles went to a 30 minute draw, then a further 5 minutes, of incredible WRESTLING (would that they were allowed to do this on Wednesday nights). A number of ringside fans started a "TNA sucks" chant at the beginning of the match, but clearly weren't directing them AT Styles or Daniels.
Post-match, Daniels refused to go another 5 minutes, but accepted Styles's challenge to a 60 minute Iron Man match for June 19th
It was interesting to note that Styles was NOT introduced by Bob Artese as the NWA World Champion, nor did he wear the NWA Title Belt to the ring.
3PW returns to the ECW Arena on June 19th with Jerry Lynn vs. Joey Matthews in a Falls Count Anywhere match, and Christopher Daniels vs. AJ Styles in a match with a 60 minute time limit in which there must be a winner. Click
