Ring of Honor 6/24 Philadelphia, PA results

Posted by Bob Magee

Ring Of Honor returned to the Philadelphia area last night at the Ramada Inn in Essington, PA before a crowd of 300-350 people. Many were suprised at the size of the crowd, given that this was a Thursday night, and there was a week's notice of the moving of the show from Baltimore tro Philadelphia. A surprising number of people with tickets for the original Baltimore location made the trip up for last night's show.

  • Marc Briscoe pinned Alex Shelley

  • Colt Cabana pinned Trent Acid

  • John Walters-Austin Aries turned into a tag match, as Generation Next did the "we took your spot" shtick, and told him to get out of the ring. Walters refused and was bloodied with a chair. Generation Next demanded that Aries be announced as the winner, but announcer Gary Michael Cappetta reminded them that the "Survival of the Fittest" tournament had alternate Josh Daniels. They jumped Daniels, and were ready to attack him with a chain when a bloodied Walters made the save, setting up a tag match of John Walters and Josh Daniels vs. Aries and Roderick Strong with the winner of the pinfall going on. Walters was pinned by Aries.

  • Homicide (with Julius Smokes) pinned Jay Briscoe with a lariat. Homicide stood over Briscoe afterwards and was shoved off by Marc Briscoe as Jay was "injured" from the lariat.

  • "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson defeated Jack Evans by submission in a form of a Boston Crab. Danielson put Evans into some sick-looking leg and body submission holds.

  • Samoa Joe defeated Matt Stryker with the Island Driver. For some unknown reason, the crowd got on Stryker bigtime chanting "Die Stryker Die" chants and ragged on him about the comedy gimmicks of 3PW's Striker.

Post-match, CM Punk came out and asked Joe when he was going to get his rematch. As Joe was about to answer, the lights went out, with Homicide holding the "stolen" ROH World title belt at the hard camera position. He then challenged Joe, with the two then brawling in the crowd.

  • Post-intermission, The Rockin Rebel pinned Scott Cardinal with a legdrop in a quick two minute squash (a booking that was given to Rebel in return for the use of his Pennsylvania license, needed in order to get the show set up here in Essington, PA after it had to be moved from Baltimore, MD).

  • CM Punk and Colt Cabana defeated Special K, Dunn and Marcos, and The Outkast Killaz in a Tag Team Scramble Match. Since the other tag team "looked like cruiserweights that didn't weigh altogether as much as Punk and Cabana did" Punk sent Cabana to the back to getready for the main event, and worked solo against the other teams. He tried to get everyone else to fight each other. He ended up pinning Dunn.

  • Then, after the tag match, Punk said that no one had been competition to him, so Hydro (aka Jay Lethal) challenged Punk to a match, which turned out to be one of the better matches of the night with Punk finally winning after about 20 minutes by pinfall. It served to elevate Hydro as a single, apart from Special K.

HC Loc cut a promo, announcing the Carnage Crew was challenging the "New and Improved Carnage Crew" to a Weapons Match on July 17 at the Rexplex in Elizabeth, NJ.

Allison Danger announced she was putting a bounty on the heads of Danny Maff and BJ Whitmer for abandoning the Prophecy.

  • American Dragon won the Survival of the Fittest Six-Way Elimination bout.

    * In the shocker of the night, Colt Cabana pinned Samoa Joe with a sunset flip.
    * Mark Briscoe pinned Cabana with a shooting star press.
    * Briscoe and Homicide ended up eliminated in a double pin after a German suplex, with both sets of shoulders down on the mat. A post-fall scuffle went on between Homicide and Julius Smokes against the Briscoes
    * Austin Aries and Dragon had an incredible match with tons of false finishes, going on for 20 plus minutes. Even though it was a weeknight, and many had to be at work the next day, the crowd stayed put and stayed hot until past 12 midnight for the end of this one. Aries was cut hardway under his chin and had his chest reddened from vicious chops by Dragon. American Dragon finally scored the pinfall, after a sequence where American Dragon got his cattle mutilation, but Aries got a rope break. Aries in turn missed the 450 Splash. Dragon eventually got Aries to submit for the fall.

The crowd gave a standing ovation after the match, with "Ring Of Honor" and "Thank You" chants.

Ring of Honor returns to the east coast on July 17th in Elizabeth, NJ for "Reborn: Completion", to the Midwest on July 23 for 2004 Death Before Dishonor Part 1in Wauwatosa, WI and 2004 Death Before Dishonor Part 2 on July 24th in Chicago Ridge, IL, to the Boston area on August 28th in Lexington, MA and to Philadelphia on October 2nd.
