  • John Walters defeated Alex Shelley to retain the ROH Pure Title

Midnight Express Reunion evening show results

  • The Havana Pitbulls defeated Izzy/Angel Dust of Special K to retain the ROH Tag Team Titles. Per the storyline, there was a catfight between Lacey and Becky Bayless, designed to eventually set up factions within "Special K".

  • Jimmy Rave defeated BJ Whitmer, Josh Daniels, and Trent Acid in the four man survival match. Post-match, Carnage Crew ran in and gave Whitmer a trash can beatdown. This match was put topether in the last week, after Dan Maff pulled out due to a shoulder injury.

  • In an excellent match, Low Ki defeated Jay Lethal via submission. This match went over well, and had great crowd heat, including the point where Low Ki went at it with Jay Lethal's well-known mother, who got one of the bigger pops of the night when she slapped Low Ki at ringside.

Post-match, Ki cut a promo on Lethal, saying that he either earns his respect or gets taught a lesson in a match, and tonight "Lethal didn't earn his respect". He also cut a promo on Samoa Joe, perhaps setting up an eventual title matchl.

  • In an upset, Nigel McGuiness defeated Homicide. The match was fairly even, with Homicide doing a great job of selling his arm throughout the match after McGuiness worked on it from early on Post-match, Homicide started tearing up the ringside area after the loss.

  • Generation Next (Alex Shelley, Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, and Jack Evans) defeated Team Steamboat (CM Punk, Ace Steel, John Walters and Jimmy Jacobs) in the 8 man elimination match that went 45 minutes.

    Here are the pinfalls:

    * Alex Shelley eliminated Jimmy Jacobs after Aries hit Jacobs with a chair behind the ref's back

    * Ace Steel eliminated Jack Evans

    * Austin Aries eliminated Ace Steel

    * CM Punk is eliminated after being DQ'd for hitting Strong with a chair, which brought a really demonstrative Steamboat ranting about using a chair on Strong.

    * John Walters eliminated Roderick Strong

    * For the final fall, Austin Aries eliminated John Walters to win the match for Generation Next

Pre-match, Steamboat cut a strange promo going on and on about "traditional wrestling", and seemed to be setting up an angle between Steamboat (representing traditional wrestling) and Mick Foley (representing hardcore wrestling), coming off of the Mick Foley "Ring of Hardcore" promos at the September 11th Elizabeth, NJ show. Unless I'm totally mising something, this sets up Mick Foley as the eventual heel (which would be insane, especially in Philadelphia) or positioning Steamboat, defending the ROH product and "traditional wrestling" as the heel, which doesn't make sense either.

Post match, Alex Shelley cut a promo saying thee was only one thing left for Generation Next...the ROH World Title...and that he was going to go after Joe and the ROH Title. Aries grabbed the mike and said he wanted to do the same. After teasing dissension, they finally shook hands and agreed that Gen Next would go after the title.

  • Then...came the Midnight Express segment. My personal highlight of the night (and earlier in the day...during the afternoon Q&A) was the return of the Midnight Express. This segment, by itself, was worth the price of admission for all of us of a certain age who remember those golden moments at the Philadelphia Civic Center, Baltimore Civic Center, and seen on TV via WTBS and syndicated TV.

To the traditional music...Bobby Eaton, Dennis Condrey, Stan Lane, and Jim Cornette all come out, and talked to the crowd about how they'd loved to work Philadelphia because the crowd seemed to truly appreciate what they did in the ring, and how Philadelphia may well have changed the face of wrestling by it being the original heel fans town in North America back in the early 1990s

As the Midnight Express weree ready to leave, they're interrupted by Prince Nana and a face from their past...Ricky Morton, whose appearance brought a helluva reaction. Morton and Cornette fired shots at each other on the mike until Jimmy Rave and the rest of "The Embassy" attack the Midnight Express, who fought them off...including all of their trademark moves, finished off with Eaton delivering a top rope knee drop and Cornette hitting Nana with his tennis racket.

The segments ended with the crowd going absolutely nuts...

  • In an excellent match that went nearly 40 minutes, with much of the crowd on their feet for the lasy 10 minutes or so, as near fall after near fall and submission after submission were teased, Samoa Joe defeated Bryan Danielson via choke submission (after a later series where each traded scary looking knees to the chest) to retain the ROH World Title.

Post-match, CM Punk came out and challenged Joe to a rematch. Then American Dragon, said HE should be next in line for a rematch. Generation Next then came out and jumped CM Punk while Samoa Joe and Dragon watched on. Then, the Rottweilers hit the ring, jumped Joe with show ending with a huge brawl in the ring.
